Announced on Wednesday, March 16th Google have posted further information on the Webmaster Central Blog about how they are going to continue to make the web more mobile friendly.
Last year on April 21st Google started using mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal on mobile searches. Starting in May 2016, they will start to roll out an update to the mobile search results pages that will increase the effect of the mobile ranking signal.
Google state that “If you’ve already made your site mobile-friendly, you will not be impacted by this update.”
So for any sites that still do not have a mobile version of their website or who do not have a responsive website design, there could be potential negative impacts to your mobile organic performance from May moving forward.
