Google AMP Updates

Smartphones and tablets have significantly grown in popularity and thus revolutionised the way we access information and interact with websites and brands online.

Back in October 2015 Google launched a new open source initiative called Accelerated Mobile Pages after having discussions with publishers and technology companies across the world. AMP has the aim of improving performance and more importantly the speed of access to information on the mobile web.

The project essentially allows websites to build new light-weight webpages to help speed the consumption of data.

An example of what this looks like is as follows:

Now to the updates and the interesting aspects for us as a web development agency.

As of June the 8th 2016 the Accelerated Mobile Pages Project launched a Google Chrome extension which has the aim of helping to validate AMP pages for websites.

The extension allows developers to quickly notice and debug issues.

Following the launch of the extension, there is now an updated Web UI which can be found here https://validator.ampproject.org/. By providing a URL or source code you can test and identify issues with your AMP pages.

These new updates allow an easier analysis of AMP pages to identify issues and create pages for websites.

Please contact us if you are interested in setting up AMP pages for your website and find out how we can help.
